When couples get divorced or end a civil partnership it's fairly normal that they need to decide how marital assets will be shared between them. This can usually be agreed by means of a Consent Order, but if not one of them must apply for a court order deciding this.

When the courts receive an application for financial relief in divorce the first step is to require both parties to file and serve a detailed assessment of their financial situation now and over the past 12 months. The standard form of financial disclosure is commonly referred to as "Form E".

This is a complicated and detailed financial assessment of each parties assets and liabilities which also asks questions about the parties past as well as their future earning potential and obliges carefully worded disclosure of their expectations and needs for the future.
